They were joined by more than 100 other volunteers from Boston, meeting with more than 500 supporters who were participating in a statewide canvass. The volunteers were joined by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, with whom they had the opportunity to speak. The students went door-to-door talking to residents about Obama's campaign and answering questions about the senator's views on issues. Georgia governor tells citizens to pray for rain during drought
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue called on people of all faiths to pray for rain, in the hope of ending the drought plaguing the southeastern United States. A severe drought has left the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida scrambling for the scarce supplies of potable water that remain. The AP reported that Perdue spokesman Bert Brantley said a week ago, "The only solution is rain, and the only place we get that is from a higher power." The government predicts that such shortages may become increasingly common across the U.S. in the next five years as water sources contend with development and urban sprawl.
