Drink Up: Candy Cane Martini

This is it: the last "Drink Up" column. I'm handing in my cocktail shaker and martini glass after this one. It's been a good year, so let's go out with a holiday treat: the Candy Cane Martini.

There are some occasions that call for a classy bev, and the martini is a chameleon that can be altered to fit any celebration. The candy cane martini is fitting for any December celebration, whether you are celebrating Christmas, New Year's, or the end of your tenure on The Heights. (Make sure to read the Swan Song section of today's issue - hearts!).

Mix the vodka and Peppermint Schnapps with ice in a shaker, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Pour it back into the shaker and dip the rim into a plate of crushed candy canes to create a minty rim. Next, pour the mixture back into the glass for a classy Christmas cocktail. If you have those mini candy canes, you can hook one over the rim instead.

We've come a long way since the first column in January. I'm no longer that clueless waitress who can't figure out how to garnish a drink, and I've branched out from just mixing vodka and cranberry juice and renaming it.

Don't let finals get you down; remember winter break is just around the corner. So, mix up a candy cane martini, bust out some holiday tunes and for one last time, drink up!
